Developing Beyond the Game
Accelerating comprehensive development across collegiate athletics
KYP partnered with a NCAA Division II athletic department to drive an intentional development experience across multiple sports to equip student-athletes with practical tools to strengthen leadership, career readiness, and their ability to navigate transition.

NCAA Division II Athletics| Multiple sports |3-session development series: Leadership, Career Readiness, & Transition Strategy
The Challenge
The department sought to provide student-athletes across multiple sports with development that could strengthen how they lead, prepare professionally, and navigate critical transitions throughout their collegiate experience.
For incoming freshmen, that need was especially important: helping them build the awareness, mindset, and practical strategies to successfully transition into a new academic, athletic, and personal environment.
KYP designed a three-session development sprint around three interconnected areas:
Leadership
Developing greater awareness of how individual strengths, behaviors, and decisions influence others.
Career Readiness
Connecting the skills developed through the student-athlete experience to professional positioning in and out of competition.
Transition Strategy
Building the ability to intentionally navigate change through identity, alignment, and execution.
A Deeper Focus on Transition
Incoming freshmen participated in an expanded transition strategy experience designed specifically around the realities of entering collegiate athletics.
Rather than treating transition as something students simply experience, KYP challenged participants to approach it intentionally to build identity of who they are, aligning themselves with their new environment, and taking ownership of the actions required to achieve their version of success.
One Foundation. Multiple Applications.
The engagement demonstrated a core KYP philosophy: effective development principles can translate across teams, sports, and stages of the student-athlete journey when the application is intentionally designed for the audience.
